本课程旨在培养学生用英语写作的能力,帮助学生写出内容有趣、语言通顺、可读性强的文章。英语写作课能帮助学生提高使用英语的准确性和扩大所用语言的范围和逻辑思考及分析问题的能力。写作要求认真细致、一丝不苟, 所以在写作练习中可以培养学生严谨的工作作风。写作对阅读、听力、口语有促进作用。写作还有许多实际用途,如写信、撰写论文、起草报告及讲稿等等。本课程主要使用丁往道等编著的《英语写作手册》 《英语写作手册(中文版 第2版)》。

A Visit to Elderly People Brings Them Great Laughter and Joy
To cultivate the traditional virtue of caring for and respecting the elderly, the Student Union organized a volunteer activity to assist elderly people in the neighborhood this weekend, bringing them great laughter and joy.
With the increasing awareness of the aging of population, the whole society sets out to take better care of and show more respect for our senior citizens for their lifelong dedication and commitment to our society. In response to the call, this weekend a group of volunteers went to the local community to communicate with the elderly and help them with some housework. Much pleased at their coming, all the elderly people expressed their sincere thanks for young volunteers' company. In the light of many adult children not being able to visit their aging parents frequently, many old people have to endure loneliness. Thus, what matters most to them is the company and listening attention.
Most of the volunteers commented that it is just a good idea, that it was a very meaningful day because they had never seen so many happy faces. In a word, this volunteer activity turned out to be a great success, as it not only lighted up the life of the elderly but also of the students.

Here is a news report on a volunteer activity organized by your Student Union to assist crop harvest in the neighborhood.
An community voluntary activity was held by the Student Union on October 18th, helping the senior citizens to do some chores.
During the whole day, our volunteers helped the elderly actively, such as cleaning the room, tidying up and also giving a performance after work. Most of the elderly who live there are lack of their families’ concern and love, so our voluntary activity brought happiness and laughter to this lonely neighborhood. Our members also got a sense of achievement and gained a lot from it. Some students admitted that they didn’t attach great importance to the care of the elders before regretfully.
This activity is also a reminder to us about we should bear in mind that we should need to always respect and carefully take care of the elderly.
